We got some great news this week. All Zoe’s scans came back negative! She is now in remission. What a relief. I had a feeling everything was going to look good, but it is still so stressful waiting for the results. When we told Zoe, she said with a big smile, ” Now I can be a normal kid again?” Right now, I am enjoying this good news and trying to stay in the moment without thinking about the future.
I often wish I could have the strength and spirit that Zoe has. We went to the mall and there was a table set up for cancer awareness. Zoe went over and asked what they were doing. They could obviously tell that she was familiar with cancer. Without missing a beat Zoe said, “I had cancer. I just found out I am in remission.” How wonderful for her to embrace so quickly that her cancer is now past tense.
It is about a year ago that this all began, with us having no idea what to expect. We are so grateful that Zoe has responded well to all the treatment. She is doing great and we are excited for the holiday season, which should be a stark contrast from 2008.
